Traditionally, our recorders have been made either of wood (which comes at a premium) or the more affordable ABS resin. But with ABS resin created mostly from oil, we wanted to find an alternative which was more environmentally friendly.
Ecodear is a new material which uses plant-based substances and around 30% less oil than ABS resin. This means less CO2 emissions and a big step forward in environmentally friendly recorder craftsmanship.
The YRS-402B is made from plant-derived Ecodear plastic - making this the world’s first application of environmentally-friendly plant based material in a musical instrument.
The change in material has resulted in a mellow, centred tone that is similar to that of wooden recorders, plus improved breath response and high-register control.
Bright colours invoking the image of plants such as corn have been used in the recorders and cases for the first time.
It has a slight resistance when you play for better breath control which gives greater tonal expressivity and projection.
Our new natural-fibre cloth cases do not contain or produce any hazardous substances when disposed of or burned.
